CSIR-NIIST has developed a unique system for disinfecting both liquid and solid toxic biomedical waste. Upon treating biomedical waste with this new path-breaking product, toxic waste is instantly converted into a fragrant non-toxic solid substance. This could be a boom to the healthcare industry & local bodies who currently face huge challenges in safely disposing biomedical waste because of spillage and cross contamination to health workers and the society at large. With the new technology, microbial disinfection happens within 1 minute of treating the waste. Detoxification & solidification of the waste reduce the risks of spillage and occupational exposure. The treated waste may be disposed as non-regulated medical waste. Segregation, transportation and disposal of such disinfected medical waste are easier, safer and economical. After the treatment, bio medical waste can be transported and disposed safely.
CSIR-NIIST has applied for protection of the IP via three patent applications. BVS has entered into a technology transfer with CSIR-NIIST and plan to set up facility to produce the required products and distribute it globally.
