OCEMS stands for Online Continuous Effluent Monitoring Systems, which are installed by 17 categories of industries and Grossly Polluting Industries (GPIs) to monitor the quality of their wastewater discharge in real time. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has mandated all state pollution control boards to start OCEMS, and has issued guidelines and standards for the same1.
The OCEMS market in India consists of hardware and software components. The hardware includes sensors, analyzers, controllers, data loggers, and communication devices that measure various parameters of the effluent, such as pH, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, and others. The software includes applications that collect, store, analyze, and display the data from the hardware, and provide alerts and reports to the users and regulators.

EBHOOM’s business model is based on the following four revenue streams:
Sale of OCEMS hardware and software: EBHOOM manufactures and sells its own OCEMS hardware and software. The company’s OCEMS hardware is manufactured in-house by assembling components from distributors who sell Chinese components and printing its own designed circuit boards at KELTRON (Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Limited). EBHOOM’s OCEMS software is built in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Annual maintenance contracts (AMCs): EBHOOM offers AMCs to its customers to ensure that their OCEMS systems are properly maintained and calibrated. AMCs typically include preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency support.
Operations and maintenance (O&M) services: EBHOOM also offers O&M services to its customers. O&M services typically include the operation and maintenance of the OCEMS system, as well as the collection and analysis of data generated by the system.
Software subscriptions: EBHOOM will start offering software subscriptions after 2 years. Software subscriptions will give customers access to EBHOOM’s software for a monthly fee.
