Nanopore based soil microbiome testing
Popular methods of soil microbial identification and quantification are culture based techniques, it is time consuming and is less accurate as they capture less than 1% soil bacterial diversity, and has lesser effectiveness in evaluating soil fungal diversity. By Nanopore Technology, soil microbiome profile can be rapidly and accurately identified.

Biotechnology
Nanopore sequencing technology is a third generation
approach to sequence biopolymers specifically DNA/RNA. The instrument monitors the change in electric current as the nucleic acid passes through a protein nanopore. The resulting sequence is decoded to provide the specific sequence of DNA. This helps in rapid and accurate identification of different microbial species.
The testing method uses various steps like DNA extraction, PCR, purity checking and sequencing etc... to generate reports of microbial profiles of the soil samples.
Revenue Streams through
- Sharing the test results to farms, plantation companies and agri startup etc. for a fee,
- Providing detailed result on the prevalence of soil microbial diversity of certain area to the agri bio-input companies viz. fertilizers / pesticide companies.
- Monetizing possibilities by IPR ownership of novel strains/ species
- Service to the researchers for using sequencing technology.
