We have developed the world's first fully retractable vertical wind turbine with a hybrid shape-changing architecture. One major challenge in the wind turbine industry is bringing efficient wind turbines to cities, cost reduction (3 x solar investment), and inefficient wind turbine performance at low or high speed, not in the same machine. We introduce a fully automated shape-changing feature that optimises the shape based on wind speed to increase the energy production, which is tested for extreme weather and accidental conditions. It adapts the shape based on wind speed to work at high and low wind speeds. We have reduced the cost to have the ROI equivalent to solar with a minimum of three times the energy production, particularly at places with space limitations, which also ensures fast installation.
