Robust links for data and voice communication has become an essential component for many maritime applications. e.g. for the deployment of ad-hoc networks for boarding parties, robust ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communications, sensor buoys, drone-mediated networks, offshore platform monitoring etc. We propose Wireless IP mesh solution to address such operational requirements. Wireless IP meshes are superior to point-to-point or point-to-multipoint networks as they are self-healing, non-centralized, and thus robust.
Our products will be able to maintain a fully wireless mesh network, as well as support bridge nodes to connect to wired IP networks. It will employ MIMO + Coded OFDM + Mesh technologies to enable many maritime use-cases which are otherwise challenged by wireless multipath effects due to water and metallic structures. These technologies are already mature, so we will initially realize the vision by integrating off-shelf radio modules and standard protocol implementations, combining them with our proprietary software for managing and monitoring mesh networks. By having our own platform, we will be able to extend/customize the mesh node functionality for different specialized use-cases. For example, a portable device may have a camera attachment from which a video stream could be sent to a central command station.
